Highlights

  • As our conference is so close to Christmas we thought it would be great to take the opportunity and ask attendees to bring an unwrapped toy for children that we can share with those less fortunate in the Niagara area this holiday season. I know each and every one of us loves seeing a smile on a child’s face so this is our chance!
We are respectfully asking those interested to bring an unwrapped toy (or monetary donation) valued at no more than $10.00 – and drop them off at the registration table Sunday night or Monday morning at this year’s conference.
  • The collected donations will be given to children in need around the Niagara area.
  • Examples: · Toy – boy or girls under 16 yrs · Socks · Gloves/mitts/hats · PJ’s · Markers / crayons
  • Thank you in advance – anything you can provide would be greatly appreciated and most importantly …noticed by Santa
  • CHILD FORENSIC INTERVIEWING - PEER REVIEW SESSION
    Workshop Date: TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3RD 0830 – 1200
Facilitators: Dayna Boyko, Toronto Police Service, Meredith Kirkland-Burke, Hospital for Sick Children, Janeen Moddejonge, Hospital for Sick Children
Have you ever been completely stuck during a forensic interview with a child victim, or been faced with a challenge and wondered if you could have handled it differently? While best practice related to child forensic interviewing currently guides our approach, namely using a protocol, exhausting open ended questions and creating a developmentally sensitive opportunity for children, we still face difficulties and “curve balls” during forensic interviews with children. This will be a Peer Review Session with three senior Child Forensic Interviewers who have unique skill sets: Meredith Kirkland Burke, a social worker and expert on adapting interviews to increase developmental sensitivity. Dayna Boyko, a police officer, and expert on asking evidentiary based questions and Janeen Moddejonge, a social worker, with an expertise in providing trauma based interventions with children and youth. The goal of this session is to learn and brainstorm together in a supportive learning environment. This session requires you to sign up in advance AND to submit a 10 to 15 minute clip of an interview that was challenging for you. It is completely participant driven, and only those signing up and submitting a clip will be permitted to attend.

**** Advanced sign up is required for this session. Please email Teresa.Barey@opp.ca no later than November 15th if you wish to participate. You will be required to submit an interview clip ****
